Biobanken är ett samarbete mellan Västra Götalandsregionen och Sahlgrenska akademin vid Göteborgs universitet. Biobank Sverige arbetar även för att underlätta tillämpningen av biobankslagen. Arbetet sker på uppdrag och med stöd av regioner och universitet med medicinska fakulteter. Arbetet stöds också av Sveriges Kommuner och Regioner, Vetenskapsrådet och Vinnova via Swelife.

The objective of the biobank is the preservation and conservation of biological material and clinical information from pediatric and young adult patients who suffer from a vast array of cancers in order to enable cutting-edge research projects that lead to breakthrough discoveries. The Biobank supports scalable and secure hosting, the management and processing of genomic data, and the analysis of large amounts of health data—including de-identified health and military service records, genomic data, exposure data, electronic health records, and lifestyle information. They are characterized by the data therein (health records and/or lifestyle information) and biological samples from various populations, and are designed to enable potentially vast clinical correlations. Idag arbetar jag som projektledare och handläggare av biobanksavtal inom Biobank Väst vid Sahlgrenska Universitetssjukhuset i Göteborg. I mina arbetsuppgifter ingår att granska och skriva avtal för forskningsstudier som vill använda prov från hälso-och sjukvården för forskning samt deltaga i olika Nationella projekt inom Biobank Sverige.
